Google, YouTube, ChatGPT and the taxman: what Kenyans actually do online
Two government websites sit among Kenya's 20 most-visited sites. Here is what the traffic data reveals.

Traffic estimates from Semrush for September 2026 give a snapshot of where Kenyans spend time online. They are estimates, not exact counts, but the pattern is clear.
Kenya's most-visited websites
| Rank | Website | Estimated monthly visits |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | google.com | 344.1 million |
| 2 | youtube.com | 205.5 million |
| 3 | chatgpt.com | 65.1 million |
| 4 | whatsapp.com | 56.2 million |
| 5 | facebook.com | 33.0 million |
| 18 | kra.go.ke | 7.5 million |
| 20 | ecitizen.go.ke | 6.9 million |
Three things the data shows
- Dealing with government is a top online activity. The Kenya Revenue Authority and eCitizen both rank in the top 20, ahead of many global entertainment sites. Millions of people go online to file taxes and get services.
- AI tools have gone mainstream. ChatGPT is the third most-visited site in the country.
- Football rules sports traffic. The most-visited sports sites are the Premier League's official site and live-score apps, alongside betting sites.
