How we work

Editorial standards and corrections

Nchiwise explains how countries develop and scale. Our readers make decisions based on what we publish, so we hold ourselves to these standards.

Editor: Isaac Newton Malaa, founder of Nchiwise. Contact: hello@nchiwise.com.

1. Sources

  • Every explainer lists its sources at the end and links to them, so readers can check our work.
  • We prefer primary sources: government statements, official data (such as KNBS and the Central Bank of Kenya), court documents and the organisations involved. We also use reputable news reports and say which outlet reported what.
  • When sources disagree, for example on a cost or a date, we say so and give both figures.

2. Accuracy and fact-checking

  • We check names, numbers and dates against the source before publishing, and run the arithmetic behind any figure we calculate.
  • We separate what is confirmed from what is announced, planned or claimed, and say what is still unknown.
  • Every explainer shows when it was first published and when it was last updated. We update fast-moving stories rather than publishing duplicates.

3. Images, video and AI

  • Artist's impressions, concept renders and AI-generated images are always labelled as such. We do not present them as photos of real events.
  • File photos are labelled with where and when they were taken.
  • We use our own graphics for data, and credit photographers and footage owners where we use their work.

4. Independence and political neutrality

  • We explain processes, policies and what each side proposes. We do not endorse parties or candidates.
  • Sponsored content is always labelled. Sponsors and advertisers do not see or change our conclusions before publication.

5. Corrections policy

When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and add a note at the end of the explainer saying what was wrong and what we changed. Significant corrections are also listed below. To report an error, email hello@nchiwise.com with the page link.
